Frequently Asked Questions
On this page I have tried to answer some of the most common questions related to web design, however if you dont see an answer to your query feel free to drop me a message
How much will it cost?
Not as much as you might think!....Please have a look at my price list.
How does the design process work?
The first stage is a good chat about the site you would like to have, I will ask you questions about what you would like the site to achieve for you and who you intend your target audience to be. We will then go through and make a list of the content the site will feature, how many pages it will have and what their titles may be. We will also discuss what you will need to pass to me in order to put it all together, this may include photographs/text/any existing artwork/logos etc… If you don’t currently have any of this…no problem we will factor that into the process. Once I have everything I need to make a start I can begin sending you some mock-ups of initial design ideas for your approval. finally once we have reached a design framework that you like, I will begin adding all the elements that make the site unique such as your content text and photos and details…this will of course vary depending on what the site is for.
I have a design idea, can you work from that?
Absolutely, If you have a idea for a layout or look for your site then I’ll be happy to discuss it and do my best to stay true to your idea, some of my favourite sites have come from an original concept from the client. my sites are built completely from scratch so anything is possible... (almost!)
What if I don’t like the site?
I aim to consult you regularly throughout the build process and this includes gaining your approval on any key design element and layouts, ultimately most of my business comes through word of mouth so its my objective to make sure you are over the moon with your new site!
Will I be able to make changes to the site?
Many people wish to be able to make changes to their site from time to time, this is no problem, I can factor in a back-end that will allow you to edit text and images within your site pages. This can be as easy as using a word-processing program such as ‘Word’. Other more fundamental changes to the design or layout would need to be carried out by myself or another competent web designer.
Do I need my own photos and artwork?
Depending on the nature and purpose of your site a great set of photos can really make the design come to life, if you don’t have photos then I can arrange for an experienced processional photographer to organise a shoot with you. depending on the price package you choose I will create original artwork and graphics to form part of the design of your site.
What is a Domain Name?
A Domain Name is essentially the name of your site, it is the text that you type into the search bar on your browser to take you to a specific site. All Domain names must be 100% unique so when choosing one for your needs it must not be currently registered by anyone else. some example of domain names are.
What is Hosting?
Hosting is the space on a server where your websites files (all the pages/pictures and other parts) are stored, A server is essentially a very powerful computer with a super fast 24/7 internet connection. I host most of the sites I build with a company called Domainsrush. They are a UK based company with fantastic customer service. Typical costs are as little as £30pa.
Do you organise Domain names and Hosting?
If you would like me to arrange these for you this is no problem and hosting/domain name packages can be as little as £30pa, which is suitable for the vast majority of websites. If the domain name you require is for some reason more desirable to others then the price to register this can increase.
The prices quoted on the prices page do not include Hosting or Domain Name purchase, this is due to the fact that many people come already having chosen a domain name or with existing hosting accounts.
